ἐν δὲ τῷ παράπλῳ πολλὰς μὲν καὶ ἄλλας χώρας παρημείψαμεν, προσέσχομεν δὲ καὶ τῷ Ἑωσφόρῳ ἄρτι συνοικιζομένῳ, καὶ ἀποβάντες ὑδρευσάμεθα. ἐμβάντες δὲ εἰς τὸν ζῳδιακὸν ἐν ἀριστερᾷ παρῄειμεν τὸν ἥλιον, ἐν χρῷ τὴν γῆν παραπλέοντες· οὐ γὰρ ἀπέβημεν καίτοι πολλὰ τῶν ἑταίρων ἐπιθυμούντων, ἀλλ᾽ ὁ ἄνεμος οὐκ ἐφῆκεν. ἐθεώμεθα μέντοι τὴν χώραν εὐθαλῆ τε καὶ πίονα καὶ εὔυδρον καὶ πολλῶν ἀγαθῶν μεστήν. ἰδόντες δ᾽ ἡμᾶς οἱ Νεφελοκένταυροι, μισθοφοροῦντες παρὰ τῷ Φαέθοντι, ἐπέπτησαν ἐπὶ τὴν ναῦν, καὶ μαθόντες ἐνσπόνδους ἀνεχώρησαν.

    παρημείψαμεν: aor. 1 pl. of παραμείβω, "we passed by."

    πολλὰς...καὶ ἄλλας: "many other" (S. 2879).

    προσέσχομεν: aor. 1 pl. of προσέχω, "we put in."

    ἄρτι συνοικιζομένῳ: "just now being colonized."

    ἀποβάντες: aor. part., "having disembarked."

    ἐμβάντες δὲ εἰς τὸν ζῳδιακόν: "after embarking (sc. and heading) for the Zodiac" (participles expressing motion can be omitted before εἰς and so we must supply one here).

    παρῄειμεν: "we passed by," πάρειμι (εἶμι) commonly provides the imperfect of παρέρχομαι.

    ἀπέβημεν: root aorist (G. 366 and 369a; S. 687).

    καίτοι πολλὰ τῶν ἑταίρων ἐπιθυμούντων: "even though my companions very much desired (sc. to do so)," (S. 2058 and 2070c; for πολλά, see S. 1609).

    οὐκ ἐφῆκεν: aor. 3 sg. of ἐφίημι, "did not allow."

    ἐθεώμεθα: impf. of θεάομαι, "we saw."

    τὴν χώραν (sc. οὖσαν): indir. statement after θεάομαι, "that the land was..." (S. 2110; for the omission of οὖσαν, see S. 2119).

    μισθοφοροῦντες παρὰ Φαέθοντι: pres. part., "who were in the service of Phaethon."

    ἐπέπτησαν: aor. act. 3 pl. of ἐπιπέτομαι, "they flew at or upon" (dep. verb that also had an active aorist).

    μαθόντες: aor. part. of μανθάνω, "once they learned."

    ἀνεχώρησαν: aor. of ἀναχωρέω, "they withdrew."
