[10.35.2] Nōn multō post equitāvērunt nostrī contrā Tripolim, invēnēruntque extrā cīvitātem Turcōs, Ārabēs, et Saracēnōs, quōs invāsērunt nostrī, et mīsērunt eōs in fugam; et occīdērunt maximam partem nōbilium urbis. Tanta fuit pāgānōrum occīsiō et sanguinis effūsiō, ut etiam aqua quae in cīvitāte fluēbat vidērētur rubēre et fluere in cisternās eōrum, unde valdē fuērunt trīstēs aliī dolentēsque. Iam vērō erant tantō timōre perterritī, ut nūllus eōrum audēret exīre extrā cīvitātis portam.

(February–May 1099) Bohemond returns to Antioch, while other crusaders proceed south and besiege Gibellum / Jabala (modern Jableh). Raymond of Toulouse—who seems not to have joined the siege—hears that he is about to be attacked, and asks the besiegers for help, which they provide, making a pact with the emir of Jabala. Next the crusaders approach Tripoli, and defeat an enemy army outside the walls, with much bloodshed.

ultrā flūmen: presumably the Arqa River, in Lebanon.
