56. After a consonant ι often causes changes.
a. λι becomes λλ: ἄλλος, Latin alius.
b. After ν or ρ, ι is transposed and contracts with the stem vowel.
c. κι, γι, or χι, sometimes τι, becomes σσ, later ττ.
d. δι, sometimes γι (also γγι), becomes ζ.
