Biblical Readings 10.1

Translate the following sentences. Note that there are notes and additional vocabuly under the "notes" tab.

1. Isaiah quotes God on monotheism:

ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεός, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλος.

LXX Is. 45:22

 

2. The Pharisees question the blind man after Jesus has restored his sight, and at one point say:

Σὺ μαθητὴς εἶ ἐκείνου, ἡμεῖς δὲ τοῦ Μωϋσέως ἐσμὲν μαθηταί.

3. The names of the Apostles:

For the following sentences, provide the correct definite article for each noun (i.e., its inflected form must match its noun in number and case). For each verb, give the person and number. Parse each noun and translate the sentences into English.

  1. ________ ἐλπίδα  ________ πατρίδι δίδωσι.
  2. ________ χρήματα ________ ἄρχουσιν οὐκ ἀποδίδωσι.
  3. ________ ὕδωρ οὐ πάρεστιν.
  4. ________ ὄνομα ________ ἄρχοντος ἐστὶν ________  Ἀχιλλεύς.

Exercises 9.1 Memorize the feminine and neuter definitive articles and the lesson vocabulary. Practice declining the following:

  1. μυριάς, μυριάδος ἡ
  2. νύξ, νυκτός ἡ
  3. φῶς, φωτός τό
  4. χρῆμα, χρήματος τό

 

Exercises 7.4

For the following sentences, provide the correct masculine definite article for each noun (i.e., its inflected form must match its noun in number and case). For each verb, give the person and number. Parse each noun and translate the sentences into English.

Note: For words not in our vocabulary (αὐτόν, αὐτό, τὰ ζῷα), consult the notes at the right.

Exercises 7.1 Memorize the new vocabulary, and practice declining each. Practice also declining the masculine definite article.

Exercises 7.2 For the following declined nouns, the accent has been placed on the nominative singular. Based upon the persistent accent rules, mark the accents for the remaining cases and numbers.
