This project came about in connection with the long-running series of summer Latin workshops sponsored by the Department of Classical Studies at Dickinson College. In July of 2023, Leni Ribeiro Leite (University of Kentucky) suggested Luisa Sigea as the author for the 2024 workshop. Meeting over Zoom in 2023–24, Ashley Roman Francese (Dickinson College) authored the notes with help from Leni and Laura Manning (University of Kentucky).
Dickinson students Alexandra Hershey ('25), Gwen Teeling ('25), Samantha Ritschl ('26), and Alice Thompson ('26) digitized the Latin texts over the winter break of the academic year 2023–24 using ABBYY Finereader, hand corrected the optical character recognition performed by that program, and corrected and proofread each other's work. They added macrons using the alatius Macronizer developed by Johan Winge. They also read the Latin texts with Ashley, Leni, and Laura and suggested notes on difficult passages. Funding to pay the students was provided by the Roberts Fund for Classical Studies at Dickinson.
Bret Mulligan (Haverford College) provided draft vocabulary lists using the lemmatizer and definitions from The Bridge at Haverford College.
The participants of the 2024 Dickinson Summer Latin Workshop, led by Ashley, Leni, and Laura, read the Latin texts, critiqued the notes, checked the macrons, and edited the vocabulary lists for the Syntra. They were: Ashley Leonard, Sarah Weinschenk, Julia Simonds, Izzy Martin, Seth Levin, Isaac Haven, Catherine Zackey, Ploy Keener, Jennifer Hoffman, Alexandra Haggis, Tom Cirillo, Stacy Ansama, Janet Brooks, Maryel Schneider, Keziah Armstrong, Mercedes Barletta, Danja Mahoney, Jacqui Bloomberg, Skye Shirley, and Maureen Haviland.
Christopher Francese (Dickinson College) edited the notes and vocabulary lists, added links and images, and wrote the introduction.
