Roman Copy of (Myron's?) Minotaur

Badly damaged statue of the Minotaur. The horns and ears are missing, as is the right arm, portions of the torso, and left hand. The face of the Minotaur is smooth, while the head between the horns has been sculpted into shaggy curls. Incisions along the neck mimic folds of skin. Repaired cracks run from across the crown of the head through the left eye and under the jaw, and across the forehead and down the right cheek indicating the nose was broken off at some point.

One half of a statuary group depicting Theseus and the Minotaur, found in Plaka, Athens. Roman copy of a Greek original. National Archaeological Museum 1664α.

Lefkandi Centaur

Terracotta centaur, the horse body is wheel-made with a small hole in the chest of the horse for ventilation during firing. The human portion is handmade. Reddish-brown paint decorates the horse back and human chest and arms with geometric patterns. The left arm is missing just below the bicep. The right arm is bent with the six-fingered hand resting on his hip. There is a vertical gash on the front left leg at approximately the knee. The head was broken off and reattached.

Terracotta figurine of a centaur, possibly intended to depict Chiron based on the gash incised on the lower left front leg. Excavated from Toumba cemetery, Lefkandi, Euboea.
