Pasiphae and the Minotaur

Interior of an Attic red-figure kylix showing Pasiphae seated on a chair, facing right, holding the young Minotaur on her lap. The Minotaur is painted with a miniaturized version of a fully grown man's body and a calf's head. Pasiphae appears to be dressed in a peplos and sandals. She wears pendant earings and a bracelet on her right wrist. A swan is painted at her feet, a small chest with a domed lid hangs from a hook on the wall in the background. The scene is surrounded by a circular meander.

Attic red-figure Kylix excavated from Vulci, Etruria. Museé de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, De Ridder 1066.
