Student Contributors

Student contributors work under the supervision of authors. They read and give feedback on notes, work on mapping, vocabulary lists, bibliographies, image annotation, digitization, and more.

2023

Ivy Johnson (Dickinson '24) and Nicholas Morris (Dickinson '24) helped edit notes and vocabulary lists for the edition of Eutropius' Roman History by Kristin Masters ('10). They developed a list of which maps are needed for the different sections of the commentary.

Sarah Serenyi ('23) and Alice Thompson ('26) worked on maps for the commentary using QGIS. 

Nicholas Morris ('24), Haydon Alexander ('24), Mandy Porter ('23), Ryan Saputo (UNH), Jillienne Robinson-Warren (UNH '26) worked on the digitization and editing of A Greek Reader by Charles Anthon . The work involved using Bruce Robertson’s web-based application Lace: Visualizing, Editing and Searching Polylingual OCR Results

Mandy Porter ('23) helped edit notes and vocabulary for the DCC edition of Homer's Odyssey, Books 5-8.

2022

Sarah Serenyi (Dickinson '23) and Ivy Johnson ('24) worked over winter break (2022-23) on cleaning the map data for Eutropius, checking locations and adjusting metadata in light of their research. 

Jack Tigani ('22), Jocelyn Wright ('23), Ivy Johnson ('24) and Nicholas Morris (Dickinson '24) helped edit notes and vocabulary lists for the edition of Eutropius' Roman History by Kristin Masters ('10). Nicholas wrote an essay on Eutropius' approach to writing history and worked on a timeline. Jack translated Propertius 1.22.

2021

Corrah Gonzalez-Lipham (Carleton '21) and M.J. Fielder-Jellsey (Carleton '22) read and gave helpful feedback on the notes for Odyssey Book 11, which they read with Dr. Jake Morton (Assistant Professor of Classics, Carleton College), during Winter Term 2021.

M.J. Fielder-Jellsey (Carleton '22), Sam Wege (Carleton '22), Emma MacArthur-Warner (Carleton '23), Samuel Zimmerman (Carleton '24), and Mandy Porter (Dickinson '23) edited vocabulary lists for Homer’s Odyssey Book 12 and made suggestions for corrections and additions to Rob Hardy’s notes. They also made suggestions for material to be included in a short Homeric reference grammar. The Carleton students were paid through the Student Research Partnership program of the Humanities Center at Carleton College. 

Lexi Chroscinski (Dickinson '23), Mandy Porter (Dickinson '23), Stephanie Klein (Dickinson '21), and Sam Hotchkiss (then grad student at UMass Boston), edited the vocabulary lists and Rob Hardy's notes for the DCC edition of Homer's Odyssey, Books 10 and 11. The group read over the text with Rob over a period of 8 weeks in summer 2021 and made suggestions for the notes and vocabulary. Mandy entered corrections in the vocabulary spreadsheet, Stephanie fixed formatting issues in the notes, and Rob implemented edits to the notes. The Dickinson students were paid through the Roberts Fund for Classical Studies at Dickinson College.

2019

Eli Goings (Dickinson ’18) harvested and edited Homeric dictionary lemmas and definitions from the commentary on Iliad 6 and 22 for importation into The Bridge.

2018

Edward Kelting (Stanford University, Ph.D. 2019) made extensive edits to the notes on Iliad Books 6 and 22 in summer 2018. His work was funded by Stanford University, thanks to Prof. Susan Stephens.

Seth Levin  (Dickinson '19) made Homeric paradigm charts based on those in Pharr’s Homeric Greek; edited the OCR of D.B. Monro’s Grammar of the Homeric Dialect in the Lace interface; edited vocabulary lists for Iliad Books 6 and 22 and created html pages for the lists; edited the DCC edition of Goodell's School Grammar of Attic Greek, sections 450 to 579.

Eli Goings (Dickinson ’18), Beth Eidam (’20), and Carl Hamilton (’21) worked on the forthcoming expanded edition of Caesar's Gallic War, editing the text notes and vocabulary for Book 1, Chapters 8–54. 

Natalie Ginez (Dickinson ’21), Claire Jeantheau (’21), and Luke Nicosia (’21) worked on Wells Hansen's commentary on Lucretius, De Rerum Natura Book 3. They completed the Bridge lemmatization of Lucretius 3, added dictionary definitions based on Hansen’s notes, and created vocabulary lists. They re-formatted Hansen’s notes and created draft pages for the notes. They added scroll bars. They proofread the notes and vocabulary lists.

Kelly Lambertson (Dickinson '21) created a deck of flashcards for the DCC Latin Core list on Anki.

2017

James Dappert (Dickinson '17) prepared an analytics report on the usage of DCC over the month of January 2017 with figures for each commentary, and a summary of figures for the whole site in 2016. He also completed the task of changing all links to Allen & Greenough's Latin Grammar from the older version to the newer, multimedia one.

Michael Niu (Dickinson '17) gathered and edited missing section summaries for Aeneid Book 1.

2016

Cadance Doyle (Dickinson '17) read and gave feedback for the notes on selections from Bede's Eccelsiastical History.

Alexandra Stagliano (Dickinson '17) read and gave feedback for the notes on selections from Bede's Eccelsiastical History.

Michale Niu (Dickinson '17) uploaded Aeneid manuscript images, created video, formatted and linked notes to Vergil's Aeneid.

Seth Levin (Dickinson '19) analyzed and displayed Caesar and Vergil vocabulary data. Edited Hodges Caesar Lexicon. Edited Goncalves' Latin-Chinese dictionary.

Connor Ford (Dickinson '19) analyzed and displayed Caesar and Vergil vocabulary data.

2015

Katherine Purington (Dickinson '15) created a web site in Drupal to collect geographical information about the journey of Aeneas; uploaded and annotated images from the illustrated Aeneid by Sebastian Brant (1502).

2014

Sarah Eisen (Dickinson '15) created vocabulary lists for Lucian's Philosophies for Sale.

Will Morrisseau (Dickinson '15) created vocabulary lists for Lucian's Philosophies for Sale.

Katherine Purington (Dickinson '15) uploaded and annotated images from the illustrated Aeneid by Sebastian Brant (1502).

Gillian Pinkham (Dickinson '15) worked with Prof. Schlitt on a project to organize and annotate visual art connected to the Aeneid.

Tyler Denton (MA '14, University of Kentucky) selected notes for Aeneid Book 2. Created bibliography of commentaries on the Aeneid.

Nick Stender (Dickinson '15), edited vocabulary lists for Callimachus' Aetia and Lucian's True History Book 1; created vocabulary lists for Lucian's Philosophies for Sale.

Lucy McInerney (Dickinson '15) selected notes for Aeneid Book 1; uploaded and annotated images from the illustrated Aeneid by Georg Chirstoph Eimmart (1688). Created bibliography of commentaries on the Aeneid; created vocabulary lists for Lucian's Philosophies for Sale.

Christina Errico (Dickinson ’15) worked on the digitization of Thomas Dwight Goodell’s Greek Grammar for Schools.

Qingyu Wang (Dickinson '14) worked on Mandarin Chinese translations for words in the DCC Core Greek and Latin vocabularies.

Lara Frymark (Dickinson '12) worked on the digitization of Henry Frieze’s Vergilian Dictionary.

Carman Romano (Haverford '16) worked on vocabulary and ancillary resources for the commentary on Amores 1.

2013

Daniel Plekhov (Dickinson '14) worked on Pleiades/Pelagios/DCC integration, created Arc GIS maps for Caesar commentary, created new table of contents for Callimachus commentary

Qingyu Wang (Dickinson '14) worked on Pleiades/Pelagios/DCC integration, created databases for core vocabularies, worked on new interface for Allen & Greenough's Latin Grammar

Kaylin Bednarz (Dickinson '15) digitized the index to Allen & Greenough, edited Perseus XML of Allen & Greenough

Joelle Cicak (Dickinson '16) drew 4 original illustrations for Nepos commentary

Lara Frymark (Dickinson '12) made spreadsheets for the core vocabularies, including frequency data

Wesley Heap (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign '14) worked on setting the text of Nepos' Life of Hannibal, collating various editions and entering the exact text into the vocabulary spreadsheet

Katherine Cantwell (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign '13) created and proofread running vocabulary lists for Callimachus commentary

James Stark (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign '14) created proofread running vocabulary lists for Vergil AP selections

Florencia Foxley (Haverford ’13) tested and commented on the final draft of the notes to Nepos' Life of Hannibal, gathered statistical information about the work, edited, proofread, and added Pleiades links.

Eliana Kohrman-Glaser (Haverford '15) tested and commented on the final draft of the notes to Nepos' Life of Hannibal and gathered statistical information about the work

Carman Romano (Haverford '16) tested and commented on the final draft of the notes to Nepos' Life of Hannibal, and helped find the images and create maps for that commentary.

2012

Alice Ettling (Dickinson '12) created the initial drafts of the core Greek and Latin vocabulary lists, made map animations for Caesar commentary, added Allen & Greenough references to Ovid commentary

James Martin (Dickinson '13) edited core vocabularies, worked on running lists for Caesar and Ovid commentaries

Meredith Wilson (Dickinson '13) edited core vocabularies, worked on running lists for Ovid commentary, and made Google Earth maps for Ovid and Sulpicius Severus commentaries

Lara Frymark (Dickinson '12) edited core vocabularies, worked on running lists for Cicero Pro Caelio, and uploaded and formatted content to Ovid commentary

2011

Alice Ettling ('11): Alice created the Google Earth map animations to go with the Caesar Gallic War selections. She added links to Allen & Greenough's Latin grammar.

Lara Frymark ('12): Lara created the first draft of the vocabulary lists for the Sulpicius Severus' Life of St. Martin, and added satellite map imagery.

2010

Brendan Boston ('11): Brendan helped select comments for Caesar Gallic War selections, drawing from existing sources in the public domain; he edited the Latin text to conform with the OCT; created first draft of vocabulary lists for Caesar commentary; and digitized many maps from older school editions of the BG.
