Bound captives from a relief sculpture of the Temple of Apollo in Circo, Rome

Marble relief panel from the Arch of Titus. In the center of the image are two men sitting on a large platform or litter with their hands bound behind their backs. The men are barefoot wearing long tunics and cloaks consistent with Roman depictions of Gauls, Germans and other men from the northern frontier. The men are seated at the foot of a wooden frame constructed from a tree trunk with crossbars. Four round shields and clothes similar to the captives are hung on it.
