Artemis stands facing right, left arm outstretched holding her bow and an unnocked arrow. She is facing Actaeon who is on his knees, left arm outstretched toward her. He is nude except for an animal skin cloak, perhaps a deer, the head of which lays on top of his. Three dogs are attacking him as a fourth prepares to lunge.

Detail of Artemis and Actaeon from the neck of a red-figure belly amphora. Actaeon appears to be wearing an animal skin cloak, perhaps intended to reference the story that Artemis transformed Actaeon into a stag.
