Sources of Notes

Line by line notes have been chosen from the following editors, and edited for clarity, consistency, concision, and punctuation style. A parenthetical indication of source is given after each note. The majority of these editions are now in the public domain, and are available in full in scanned form at archive.org and elsewhere. For those commentaries that are still in print we have provided links to the publishers' web sites where they may be purchased. We have added links to Allen & Greenough's Latin Grammar as digitized at DCC, and to other reference works such as Pleiades and Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Geography, as digitized at Perseus. Links for Latin literature normally go to PHI, for Greek, to Perseus. Links for rhetorical and poetic figures normally go to Wikipedia, since these entries are now typically fuller than those in almost all books, and include examples from various languages. Notes have occasionally been translated from Latin or other languages into English.
