The Comparative of Adverbs is the neuter accusative of the comparative of the corresponding adjective; the Superlative is the Adverb in -ē formed regularly from the superlative of the Adjective :—

cār ē , dearly (from cārus , dear ); cār ius , cār issimē .

miser ē (miser iter ), wretchedly (from miser , wretched ); miser ius , miser rimē .

levi ter (from levis , light ); lev ius , lev issimē .

audāc ter (audāc iter ) (from audāx , bold ); audāc ius , audāc issimē .

ben ĕ , well (from bonus , good ); mel ius , op timē .

ma lĕ , ill (from malus , bad ); pê ius , pes simē .

The following are irregular or defective:—

diū , long (in time); diūt ius , diūt issimē .

potius , rather; pot issimum , first of all, in preference to all.

saepe , often; saep ius , oftener , again; saep issimē .

satis , enough; sat ius , preferable.

secus , otherwise; sēt ius , worse.

multum ( multō ), mag is , ma ximē , much , more , most.

parum , not enough; min us , less; min imē , least.

nūper , newly; nūper rimē .

temperē , seasonably; temper ius . In poetry the comparative mage is sometimes used instead of magis .
